OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Why Textile Safety Matters to International Buyers

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Why Textile Safety Matters to International Buyers

Moving Toward Safer and More Transparent Textile Manufacturing

In the global textile industry, quality is no longer defined only by appearance, GSM, fabric construction, or price.

For international buyers, what goes into a textile product is becoming just as important as what comes out of the production line.

    What materials are used?

    What chemicals are involved?

How is the fabric dyed and finished?

Can the production process be controlled?

Can the supplier demonstrate that the finished textile meets recognized safety requirements?

These questions are increasingly important when sourcing textiles for apparel, home textiles, baby products, bedding, mosquito nets, and other consumer applications.

At Thu Huong Textile, we recognize this change.

As part of our ongoing transformation since 2025, we have been progressively strengthening our production system and working toward internationally recognized standards.

One of these important milestones is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.

    What Is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a globally recognized textile certification system focused on testing textiles for harmful substances.

    Its fundamental principle is straightforward:

Textile products should be tested for substances that may be harmful to human health.

Depending on the product and its intended use, testing can cover different components and materials, including:

The certification system is particularly relevant because textile products can come into contact with human skin during everyday use.

For international buyers, therefore, OEKO-TEX® can provide an additional level of confidence when evaluating textile materials and suppliers.

Why Does OEKO-TEX® Matter to Textile Buyers?

For a buyer, purchasing fabric is not simply about finding a specification that matches:

    75D / 100D / 150D

    or:

    30 GSM / 40 GSM / 100 GSM.

A professional sourcing decision also considers the safety and compliance of the material.

This becomes particularly important when fabrics are used for:

    Home textiles

    Bedding products

    Baby and children's products

    Apparel

    Mosquito nets

    Hotel and hospitality products

    Private-label consumer products

For these applications, buyers increasingly need suppliers who understand that material safety is part of product quality.

OEKO-TEX® Is Not Simply About the Fabric

One important point is often misunderstood.

A fabric's safety characteristics are not determined solely by the knitting machine.

The textile manufacturing chain can involve multiple stages:

    Yarn → Knitting → Dyeing → Finishing → Inspection → Packing

Each stage can influence the final product.

For example, a Warp Knit fabric may be manufactured correctly at the knitting stage, but subsequent dyeing and finishing processes also need to be properly controlled.

This is why the relationship between a fabric manufacturer and its processing partners is extremely important.

Thu Huong Textile's Approach to OEKO-TEX®

At Thu Huong Textile, we manufacture Warp Knit fabrics and work with specialized partners for processes such as dyeing and finishing.

Several of our established dyeing partners already meet OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 requirements.

This provides an important foundation for our own development.

As part of our transformation since 2025, we have been progressively aligning our supply and production chain with international textile safety expectations.

    Our current OEKO-TEX® status is:

    Pre-Certificate / In Progress

We are working toward completing the relevant requirements and documentation.

We believe it is important to communicate this process transparently.

We are not presenting a completed certification before it is officially completed.

Instead, we want international customers to understand where we are today — and where we are going.

From Supplier Requirements to Manufacturing Responsibility

One of the reasons we are pursuing international standards is that we want to change the way we think about manufacturing.

Previously, the focus of a textile manufacturer could be summarized as:

    Can we make the fabric?

Today, the question needs to become broader:

Can we make the fabric consistently, safely, responsibly, and according to the requirements of international customers?

This means developing stronger control over:

    Raw Materials

Understanding yarn specifications and the origin and quality of materials used in production.

    Manufacturing Processes

Maintaining stable Warp Knit construction and consistent production parameters.

    Dyeing & Finishing

Working with qualified processing partners and paying closer attention to chemicals, auxiliaries, and finishing processes.

    Quality Control

Improving inspection, documentation, traceability, and batch consistency.

    Compliance

Understanding and progressively aligning with international standards requested by customers.

This is a much broader approach to manufacturing.

Why This Matters for Our International Expansion

Vietnam is becoming an increasingly important alternative sourcing destination for international textile buyers.

The China+1 strategy is encouraging global companies to diversify their supply chains and develop additional manufacturing partnerships in Asia.

But being located in Vietnam is not enough.

Vietnamese manufacturers also need to demonstrate that they can meet the quality, compliance, documentation, and consistency expectations of international buyers.

This is the direction Thu Huong Textile is pursuing.

We want to move beyond being simply a factory that can produce Warp Knit fabric.

We want to become a manufacturer that international buyers can evaluate, understand, and trust.

OEKO-TEX® as Part of a Larger Transformation

OEKO-TEX® is only one part of our broader development roadmap.

Since 2025, Thu Huong Textile has been progressively working toward a stronger manufacturing and management system.

    Our development includes:

    ISO 9001 - Processed

    OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 - Pre-Certificate / In Progress

    BSCI - In Process

Each initiative addresses a different aspect of our development.

    ISO 9001 → Quality Management

    OEKO-TEX® → Textile Safety

    BSCI → Social Compliance

Together, they support a larger objective:

Building a more professional, transparent, and internationally aligned manufacturing organization in Vietnam.

We Want to Learn From International Buyers

Our journey toward international standards is not only about obtaining certificates.

    It is also about learning.

We recognize that international brands and sourcing organizations may have requirements that go beyond any single certification.

    Different markets have different expectations.

Different product categories have different testing requirements.

Different brands have different restricted substance lists, quality standards, and compliance procedures.

    We welcome that.

If you are an international buyer, we want to understand:

Your requirements help us understand the international market better.

    And they help us improve.

    Our Commitment

At Thu Huong Textile, we believe that international manufacturing capability is built step by step.

    It is built through:

    Investment.

    Process improvement.

    Training.

    Documentation.

    Quality control.

    Compliance.

    Continuous learning.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is therefore not simply a logo we want to place on our website.

It represents part of our commitment to building a more responsible and internationally compatible textile manufacturing system.

    Our journey is still ongoing.

    But our direction is clear.

We are building today for the international standards of tomorrow.
